The main tradeoff

Adds panels and smart switching but no pack; electrical install requires an electrician and the full panel nameplate is not confirmed through one station input plan.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do panels and the Smart Transfer Switch have to arrive together?

SKU 60-5050-USA112 lists both the two-panel pair and STS.

Explorer 5000 Plus, two SolarSaga 500 X panels, and Smart Transfer Switch

SKU 60-5050-USA112 combines three distinct components: the Explorer 5000 Plus JE-5000A, two SolarSaga 500 X panels, and a Smart Transfer Switch. This is the configuration to compare when both solar panels and household transfer equipment need to be in the same order. It is not a bigger inverter or battery than the station-only version. The station remains a 5,040 Wh, 7,200 W maximum unit; this exact bundle has no extra Battery Pack 5000 Plus. The switch changes the home's connection plan, and panels change available charging hardware, but neither changes the station's stored energy by itself.

Smart transfer is not a manual switch

Jackery calls the included component a Smart Transfer Switch. It is not a manual transfer switch, plug-in adapter or power strip. The switch materials describe up to 12 120 V circuits or 6 240 V circuits, with the actual set determined by the home's service and electrical design. A qualified electrician should confirm panel compatibility, the selected circuits, neutral and grounding needs, load balance and local code before installation. This equipment is meant to be installed as part of a household electrical project; do not improvise a connection from the station to a home's wiring.

The manufacturer's faster transfer behavior depends on configuring or enabling the smart automatic function. It is not accurate to promise one universal “seamless” behavior for every device, circuit or setup. The station's ordinary backup transfer is under 20 ms. A separate online UPS mode can deliver 0 ms only from the NEMA 5-20 outputs, and only up to 3,600 W. Those are different functions. Test the complete system with the devices that matter, and retain a suitable dedicated UPS when a load cannot tolerate an interruption.

Solar panels do not bypass station input limits

The package names two 500 X panels, but they do not establish a full 1,000 W station charging rate. The JE-5000A manual describes high PV at 135–450 V, 15 A and up to 4,000 W, and two low-PV DC 8 mm ports at 16–60 V, 10.5 A per port and 1,200 W combined. The JS-500A manual lists a 500 W ±5% panel maximum-power rating, 41.7 V ±5% Vmp, 12 A ±5% Imp and 48.5 V ±5% open-circuit voltage. The current product page displays 545 W ±5% instead. One panel does not meet the high-PV input minimum, and panel current is at or above the low-PV per-port limit. The included bundle may still provide useful charging, but we do not claim an array operating at every panel's full nameplate. Confirm cables and wiring against the current connection guide; a product image cannot resolve this electrical question.

Sun angle, shading, temperature, cable routing and battery state affect real charging. The 4,000 W figure is a maximum for a compatible high-voltage array, not the output expected from these two panels. Do not add an unverified adapter or series connection to force a desired voltage. If a full rated input is essential, seek a manufacturer-documented array configuration with adequate voltage and current margin.

Output, storage and footprint

The JE-5000A is about 134.5 lb and measures 16.5 by 15.5 by 25 inches. The package also contains panels and a switch; Jackery does not give one meaningful total carry weight for all components. Plan a fixed, dry location and delivery access. Four NEMA 5-20 outlets are 120 V, with larger L14-30R and 14-50 connections for other supported plans. Maximum total AC output is 7,200 W with 14,400 W surge; do not use surge as a running rating. At -15°C to -10°C, manual output is reduced to 3,600 W. Battery expansion up to five compatible packs is supported, but none is included here and extra capacity will not increase inverter output.

The manual states 0°C to 45°C for charging, -15°C to 45°C for discharge, and indoor use; it warns against rain and humidity. Keep station and household wiring dry and sheltered. A station's 5,040 Wh nameplate is not an AC runtime promise; startup load, simultaneous appliances, conversion loss and temperature all matter.

Who needs this exact combination?

This bundle fits a household planning an electrician-installed circuit-transfer system and wanting the named two-panel set in the same offer. Compare the 2×500 X solar-only option if you want panels but not wiring equipment. Compare the station-plus-switch SKU if a panel kit is not needed, or the 10 kWh + switch offer if extra storage is more valuable than panels. The Home Backup Kit changes the setup further by supplying two station/pack assemblies and a paired 240 V plan. For occasional backup of a few appliances, a smaller station may be easier to move and avoid an installation project. This assessment comes from current manufacturer documentation; no home installation, panel yield, transfer speed or runtime was independently tested.
